Prato allo Stelvio (915m)
Prato allo Stelvio is a starting point for some of the most spectacular and challenging hikes, mountain climbs or ski tours in the entire Alps. This lovely mountain village is situated at the foot of the Stelvio National Park.
Prato allo Stelvio is known for its mild and sunny climate making it a popular holiday destination.
The mountain village has a population of 3365 inhabitants and in the center there are several shops and restaurants which are worth a visit.
Prad is situated in the middle of the Venosta Valley, 45 km from Merano, the widest valley of Venosta and at the beginning of the world-famous Stelvio Road. The summit of the Stelvio at 2757m is 25 km away.
From the mountain village in the Stelvio National Park many walks, from leisurely hikes through meadows to Waalwege Hiking Trails on the sunny side and walks to shady forests on the north side can be undertaken.
Families with children can explore interesting themed paths in and around the village and take a dip in the large outdoor swimming pool. For the latter, our guestscqn get tickets at the reception for a small fee.
The village Prad lies amidst nature and is surrounded by fields.
Prad is an ideal starting point for hiking and mountaineering to the eternal ice of the Ortlergroup.
It is ideal for simple and demanding mountain bike tours in the most beautiful cycling paradise of Vinschgau. The Vinschgau bike path "Via Claudia Augusta" leads past the camping.
In winter there are 7 ski areas in the Ortler Skiarena Association in the immediate vicinity.
Prad: the visitors' center of the Stelvio National Park, "Aquaprad", the biotope "Pradersand", the historical village points, the Romanesque church St. Johann at the southern exit of our holiday resort, the St. Georgskirche in Agums and the castle in Montechiaro.
Tradition and Customs in Prato allo Stelvio: Customs and Traditions Practiced throughout the Year, Venosta Valley is the best proof of this. We recommend a walk into history by visiting the ruins of Lichtenberg Castle.
An archaic tradition in Venosta Valley - “Oh rhyme, oh rhyme, whose log slice should this be?" This is the quaint Venosta Valley spoken melody as it occurs in the archaic ritual of launching burning slices of wood known as Scheibenschlagen. – Winter is thereby expelled and love and fertility poetically evoked in a fiery ritual.
